Attack of the Little Auks

.......or not as the case may be - Little Auk Alle alle is an uncommon visitor in Northern Ireland. Fair enough there may be population estimates of 16-36 million adult birds but only a snifter of that total ever reaches here.

Strangely enough although this species is usually a winter visitor to these shores the first Norterhn Irish record was in Co. Down on the 22nd May 1846.

Thanks to Alan Tilmouth for letting us use his great images of a species that can be tricky enough to catch up with in Northern Ireland.
