Bird News Saturday 20th November

No, it's not the end of the world, this is a pre-prepared get out of jail free card. If you are reading this message we might very well be off to see the Pie-billed Grebe in Manchester and then on to the American Robin in Devon.

We could predict what will turn up while we're away but we'll leave the predictions to Paddy the Psychic Cephalopod from Portavogie.

Since Jimmy and Arnold are off on their jollies I suppose it's up to me to fill you in on the actual news...

140 waxwing were seen in the Stranmillis Boat Club carpark by Ed McGuiggan

The male Ferruginous Duck was at Corbet Lough, Co. Down.
150 Wigeon, 300 Lapwing, 2 Greenshank and 29 Brent were at Roe Estuary,
 Co. Londonderry (C Stewart).
55 Sanderling, 2 RT Diver and 3 Grey Plover were at Castlerock (Mervyn Guthrie).
Late news from yesterday; In Co. Antrim the Goosander and a Chiffchaff were at Ballycastle
as well as Waxwings heard calling.
The adult RB Gull was at Portrush East Strand carpark (Colin Guy).

There were 2 Swallows in Ballycastle this morning, 40+ Twite in Ballintoy area and also a drake Long-tailed Duck there this afternoon. ( Cheers to Geoff Campbell for that, whose brilliant photo is below.)

Right - I'm signing off for now, we'll see if either of those two loons notice I've been on their blog when they get back

Jemima Puddleduck (long suffering wife to Arnold Boring)

Thanks to Geoff Campbell for his great shots taken recently at Glenarm, this time a Black Guillemot. It's gettign awfully close to Christmas and you'd be wasting your time and risking offending friends and family if you didn't buy them a print from Geoff's website!

And here's another picture of a Waxwing again to keep you happy while we're off on our travels. Thanks to Gerry Dalton for this one.
