Bird News Saturday 18th December

450+ Waxwings were along the Whitewell Rd., Belfast. Probably around 600 birds were present in the next couple of hours and then groups began to split and move up and down the road. 3 were also seen near Belfast Castle.

A single Waxwing was also at Ballymena.

The female Smew is still on the River Qouile near the Killyleaagh Bridge, Downpatrick.(K.Bennett)

16 Bramblings were visiting a garden in Richill, Co. Armagh (Andrew Poots) Some things in life just aren't fair, I'm still waiting for my first Brambling in my garden!

3 Brambling were in a garden in Waterloo Park in Belfast.

Brambling, Redwing and 2 Blackcap were in a garden along Ballymoney Road, Ballymena.

An ad Mediterranean Gull was at Whiteabbey opposite the New Abbey takeaway

6 Brambling, 15 Redwing, 30 Lesser Redpoll and a Fieldfare were in a garden in Dunmurry, Belfast

4 Brambling were at Randalshough nr Monea in Fermanagh.

The pair of Goosander were still at Loughislandreavy - spare a thought for John O'Hare who went down today to get a photo but the mist rolled in!

11 Purple Sandpiper were at Newcastle Rock Pool, 6 Red-throated Diver were offshore. At Islands Park, Newcastle, there were 12 Redwing and a Sparrowhawk.

Dundrum Inner Bay South had 12 Black-tailed Godwit, a Little Egret and 42 Snipe.

At Whitehouse Lagoon 1 Snipe was out in the open, 30 Blacktailed Godwits and 200 Lapwing were also seen. 20 Shelduck were on the Lagoon
At Dargan Bay around 1000 Scaup were present, the hybrid male Tufted x Scaup was also present.
