Bird News Sunday 26th December

A minimum of 40 Brambling were visiting a garden in Richill, Co. Armagh (Andrew Poots)

In Co. Antrim 2 redhead Goosander were along the River Main, downstream from Slaght Bridge.

A Nordic Jackdaw was at Belfast International Airport (D. Charles and D. Weir) And it was a cracker!

At Strangford Lough a Black Throated Diver was at Horse Island with 2 Slavonian Grebes and 2 Scaup at Greyabbey Bay.


4 Brambling were visiting a garden in Dunmurry

In Co. Londonderry, a male Brambling was visiting a garden in Thornhill Drive, Magherafelt with c.50 Chaffinch

In Co. Down a male Black Redstart was roosting in farm buildings on private farmland near Tyrella (A. Crory and E. McGuiggan) A Grey Plover, 60 Golden Plover and a Common Buzzard were also present.

3 Yellowhammers (2 males) were at a private garden at Ardilea



Red Kites were at the Cup and Saucer, near Bryansford...





and at Slievenalargy (12 Fieldfare were also present).....



....and another over Clarkhill just outside Castlewellan.

A male Goosander was at Loughislandreavy as well as 13 Tufted Duck, 8 Goldeneye and a Coot.

Islands Park, Newcastle had a Woodcock and 45 Redwing.

A Snipe/ Jack Snipe was feeding in a private garden at Ardarragh townland near Rathfriland (J. Constable)
