Bird News Tuesday 21st December

A pair of Goosander were off Newcastle Harbour today (maybe the two that were at Loughislandreavy?) and 6 Purple Sandpiper were at Newcastle Rock Pool (Dan Bailie - who also has about 100 Redwings out the back of his house, and he had a Tree Sparrow there yesterday, a garden first and a good record for Newcastle!)

A male Brambling was still at Islands Park Newcastle (I wonder who saw that?)

6 Brambling, 40 Chaffinch, 1 Lesser Redpoll 1 Treecreeper, 4 Song Thrush, 4 Goldfinch and 5 Greenfinch were in a garden in Killough

In Co. Antrim 5 Waxwing and 3 Brambling were in a garden in Carrickfergus, 17 Brambling were in a garden in Whitehead and a Brambling was along Waterloo Road in Lisburn. 90 Pied Wagtail roosting outside Iceland in Bridge St Belfast.

In Co. Fermanagh a Brambling was at Magheraveely
Around Bangor Stricklands Glen and the coast path produced:
2 Snipe, 23 Redwing......

.....15 Fieldfare........

....a Jay.....

....a Golden Plover....

....... 2 Little Grebe, 1 Great Crested Grebe

(All of the above seen by Ronald Surgenor and all the pics are from today - visit Ronald's Flickr page HERE or we will start prank phone-calling you in the middle of the night)

6 Greenfinch and 3 Redwing were at Loughinisland (W. McNamara)

.....and it's good news on the competition front - over 80% of the sightings they had on their website yesterday were by me. Next thing you know they'll lift those Yellowhammer photos or start their own Cheesy Duck saga. Isn't that sad? Come on Larry, Barry and Harry you can do better than that (says the man in the glasshouse - you can have them all for free anyway)

Tunisia Update:
The carnivores didn't do too badly today, considering they were driving most of the day - 3 Moussier's Redstart, 2 Lanner, 2000 Marbled Teal, Black Wheatear, 30 Trumpeter Finch, 3 Pallid Swift, 58 Grey Shrike all finished off with a salami pizza in the sahara. First day with no gulls - he'll crack yet.

I've changed my mind since yesterday - here's what would make the best Christmas card ever! Thanks to Geoff Campbell for this one - check out Geoff's site or we'll give you a chinese burn

Here's some more shots from Nigel Snell, check out his websites or we'll come around your house and sort you out:
