Bird News Friday 14th January

A female hybrid Ferruginous Duck x Pochard was at Oxford Island today (D. Charles)
This bird is Ferruginous Duck like plumage wise. It is slightly large than Ferruginous and head shape reminicent of Pochard. White undertail coverts not as extensive as expected on a Ferruginous.
300 Pochard and 200 Tufted Ducks also present. 20 Skylarks were nearby.

2 male Smew are now at Portmore Lough, Co. Antrim. No sign of the female from yesterday (D. Charles)
6 Greylag, 10 Whoopers and 2 Gadwall were at Lady Bay

3 Waxwings were along the Causeway Rd, Newcastle and 2 Dippers and a Kingfisher were at Tipperary Woods (H. Devlin)

A Brambling was at the RSPB Rerve along withReed Buntings, Long Tailed Tits and a Goldcrest all around the feeders at the Ob's room. Black Tailed Godwits, Teal and Wigeon all showed well and raptors included 2 Buzzards, Perergine and a Sparrowhawk. (R.Surgenor)

A 1st winter Meditterean Gull was at Killyleagh along with 5 Carrion Crow

A Merlin was seen along the Agharan Road near Newmills, Co. Tyrone (Neil Harrison)

In Co. Fermanagh a Greenshank and a Great Northern Diver were at the western end of Lower Lough Erne
