Ocean of Wings Film Festival

Ocean of Wings

 Touring Film Festival
A one day festival of seabird films to be shown in Northern Ireland
Saturday 5th March 2011
10am – 4.30pm
Tollymore National Outdoor Centre
Bryansford, Co Down

The detailed programme of films and speakers for the day has not yet been finalised. However, because time is moving on, and demand for the limited number of places is likely to be high, it has been decided to let everyone know the date and venue for the festival, and to allow those that are interested to book their place. Due to sponsorship for the event by NIEA it has been possible to keep the cost of tickets to just £10. This will include teas, coffees and a lunch, as well as the films and the speakers.
The day will include:
  • A small number of seabird specialist speakers
  • Details of a new seawatching initiative being developed by a wide range of partners and being coordinated by BTO
  • The opportunity to network with seabird enthusiasts
  • As many films as we can show from the following selection:
o The Albatross of Kaua’i
o Fish out of Water
o Guano Birds
o Restoring Balance
o Flying Dustbin
o Wrath of the WEGU
o Bugio’s Petrel
o Albatrocity
o Pick-up-sticks
o The Titi Islands
o The Maidens
o Bogoslov Summer
o Kiska
o Leg 5
o Asking the Auks about Climate Change
o Island Invaders
o Penguin Science
o Eagle among the swarm
o Returning Home
o Storm-Petrels
o Scorpion Rock

This portfolio of films was first brought together to be shown at the 1st World Seabird Conference in Victoria, BC in September 2010. The conference organisers and the film makers have given the BTO permission to show these films again in the UK and Ireland as way of bringing seabird enthusiasts together to promote research into, and the protection of, seabirds worldwide.
