Bird News Saturday 10th March

In Co. Londonderry:
A white phase Snow Goose was with 20 Greeland White-fronted Geese. An adult Little Gull was at Myroe Levels (D. Charles)

In Co. Armagh:
The Tundra Bean Goose, 3 Pink-footed Goose and 30 Russian White-fronted Geese and one Greenland White-fronted Goose and a Merlin were at Reedy Flat, Lough Neagh (Brad Robson)


In Co. Antrim:
14 Iceland Gull, a Glaucous Gull and a leucistic Herring Gull were at Corbally Reservoir, Portrush (N Warnock)

A Black Redstart was at Blackhead Lighthouse

Here's some sightings from Gavin Ferguson - I'm having my dinner so you'll have to wait until tomorrow for the pics:

"Good few sightings today. Down through Carnfunnock and loads of Bullfinch, Greenfinch, Long-tailed Tit and the rest of the tits busying themselves gathering nesting material and making a wile racket. Also three Raven and a Buzzard were circling high above the forest. Up through the Antrim Hills and seen another six Raven, three Buzzards, Sparrowhawk and a female Hen Harrier."

In Co. Down (the fairest birdwatching county in the land):
In Greyabbey Bay 36 Slavonian grebe. The 4 Russian whitefronts were still with the grey-lag flock south of Annes Point. (Richard Weyl)

"I spent the morning photographing wee brown jobs in the back garden, I also spotted Andrews secret chicken army in training this afternoon whist out and about, if you look carefully you can see the carcass of an ivory gull they've been fed on."








In Co. Donegal:
4 Russian White-fronts and 2 Barnacle Geese were at Big Isle. A male Smew was at Inch. A 1st winter Iceland Gull, an adult Med Gull were at Fivefinger Strand. A 3rd winter Iceland was 1km north of Carndonagh. A 1st winter Iceland was at Ballyliffin and 120 Barnacle Geese were at Malin Head. (D. Charles et al)

The male Ring-necked Duck was at Dunfanaghy New Lake. At Fanad Head there were 2 adult, a 3rd winter, 4 2nd winter and 6 1st winter Iceland Gulls, a 2nd winter Glaucous Gull and a 3rd winter Kumlien's (D. Charles et al)
