Bird News Sunday 1st April

No April Fools jokes today and no it's not August I realise that now.....

In Co. Armagh:
70 Tree Sparrows were at Richhill (Andrew Poots)

In Co.Antrim:A first winter Ring Billed Gull moulting into first summer was off Glynn Station.

In Co. Down:
2 Swallows were at Maghera, Newcastle (Ryan Gallagher)

In Greyabbey Bay 17 Slavonian Grebe (all in full summer plumage). South of Gransha Point 6 Black-Throated Diver (3 in full summer plumage). At Ballyquintin Point a merlin and a chiffchaff. A singing willow warbler at Lough Cowey. (Richard Weyl)

Some sightings from Outer Ards today (Keith Bennett):

Mount Stewart: 1 chiffchaff singing

Ann's point: 3 little egrets, 2 greenshank

Greyabbey: 4 Slavonian Grebe (summer plumage), 1 greenshank

Herring bay: 1 red kite in flight (not possible to tell whether tagged)

Kircubbin: 1 tree sparrow at garden feeder, 2 yellowhammer

Monaghan bank (Kircubbin): 1 willow warbler singing

Saltwater Brig (S of Kircubbin): 1 Green Sandpiper, 1 little egret

Marlfield: 2 yellowhammer inland, 1 great northern diver offshore

Ballyquintin: 1 red-throated diver past

Kearney: 1 whimbrel past, 2 red-throated diver past

A First summer Mediterrean Gull was at Kinnegar Shore, Belfast

In Co.Londonderry: 7 Ruff were at Lough Beg
